As a family mediator I strongly believe that partners can separate amicably. Yes, breakups are hard - their emotional, stressful and all encompassing. But, the end of a relationship doesn't have to be angry, mean-spirited and vengeful; it also doesn't have to result in a complete destruction of a relationship. I am often inspired by the families I work with who are able to create a foundation of mutual respect after a separation/divorce.

Popular comedian Amy Schumer seems to know a lot about amicable separations. Her ex-boyfriend, writer Kyle Dunnigan, gave an interview recently admitting that he is still living with Amy after their breakup. In fact, not only is he living with Amy, he also shares her home with her new husband and their son Gene!

Dunnigan admits his living situation is unique, and is intended to help him get back on his feet while he looks for his own housing. While the living situation is temporary - I think it's great that Dunnigan and Schumer were able to work through their separation and build a supportive friendship!
